PAINTING: Ada Lorana

So, I attempted a similar technique that I used on my Crystallan team on my Ada Lorana team. I was not as happy with the result, and I am definitely going to experiment with completely painting my other team of Ada Lorana, but I am happy enough to put them on the table. It is hard to tell from the pic, but there are subtle shifts in the shades of blue on them.

One thing I did that I did definitely like the result of was painting the different positions a different color. I used Yellow for Strikers, Orange for Jacks and Red for Guards.

I do see that the yellow could use another coat... gotta get to that.

PAINTING: Crystallan Team

I finished painting my Crystallan team (at least, the first team of them).

What I did:
  • I used Vallejo Matt Vanish to lay down a simple coat to paint on.
  • I used Army Painter Blue Tone to tint the model and darken the crevices blue.
  • I dry-brushed a mixture of Citadel Foundation Mordian Blue and Army Painter Matt White - heavy on the White.
  • I painted the metal areas with some Greycoat Grey topped with Citadel Chainmail.
  • On the metal areas, I then used some Army Painter Strong Tone to give it a little depth.
  • Then, I went over the metal with some Vallejo Matt Vanish.
  • I did some red coloring on the metal with P3 Khador Red Base.
  • Finally, I went over the crystal portion of them with Gloss Vanish to give them a crystal-like shine.

I was pretty happy with the results!

PAINTING: Challenging Myself to Paint!

I made a promise to myself when I received my Kickstarter shipment earlier this year. I promised that before the next Wave arrived, I would have my Season 4 teams painted. Now, this promise was made easier by the fact that one of my friends had paid for the Brokkr team and one of my friends had paid for the Sphyr team. But that still left me with three teams to get painted before the next shipment, and for me, that is a big deal. I felt determined it should happen.

Team One Martians

The first team I completed was the Martians! They were a lot of fun to paint, even though it took me a long time to do it. I went with a pretty traditional scheme for their colors. When I play them, I say, "Ack ack!" every time I shoot someone.

Team Two Rebs

The second team I finished up was the Rebs! I went with a blue on blue scheme for them. It went well with most of the other color choices that I was thrilled! My wife particularly liked the Sorak Jack painted in turquoise. I actually was pushed to finish these guys because I "oathed" to do it on the MANTIC MADNESS Facebook group - I was an Oath Keeper!

Team Three Hobgoblins

The third and final team I completed, and thereby fulfilled my promise to myself, was the Hobgoblins. I started them a long time ago, and finally completed them right after I finished up the Rebs. My idea was to do a Dark Brown on top of a Light Brown for a team, then do the inverse for another team of Hobgoblins (which would give them close enough colors to use in a league). The original team turned out pretty good, but the secondary team did not. The Light Brown on top of Dark Brown just doesn't work. Oh well, at least one team is painted! I did vary some from the original scheme thanks to a comment from RavensaursRex, and I like the result.

ALSO, I finished another team in the time period!

Team Four Orx and Goblins

AND, I repainted a team too!

Team Five Asterians

So, when I receive my Season 5 and Season 6 Kickstarter teams soon, I challenge myself to paint at least three of the teams before the end of the year!

PAINTING: Orx and Goblins team

In my Hobgoblins painting post, I mentioned that I was doing my Orx and Goblins in the more traditional shades of red. Well, here they are. I used a few different reds on them and tried to vary the players some for a tiny bit of flavor. I am happy with the results and hopefully they will be great for beginning players to see and play with in demo games!

PAINTING: Hobgoblin Prototypes

Got a little bit of painting done today during nap time. I wanted to go with a different color than the studio Hobgoblin team. Thought about red, but my Orx are a traditionally painted red team. I liked the idea of brown due to silly connection to the "Stench" ability. I like the way they are looking, but they still need a little cleanup.

PAINTING: DBX Scenery (Plus)

This is a sampling of the Dreadball Xtreme style I went with for my scenery. I have a lot of blood splatters and a wide range of colors on the crates. I have all the tall objects completed at this point, but I still cannot decide what to do with the smaller crates. I primed everything with the Armor Painter Platemail - I am just leaving them metallic until I can figure out what to do.

These are my custom DBX Action Tokens. I was getting upset with the tokens not matching the board and all, so I just made some new ones. I tried to keep with the general look and feel of the game. And the look and feel of my scenery - metallic with blood splatter. :-)

PAINTING: DBX Free Agents

So, I have a few of my free agents painted so far. I have the second round from the kickstarter that I still haven't touched, but hey, you gotta start somewhere. Below are the Zee Bucaneers, the Avaran Treebeast, and the training robots (Jetari SL-22 "Thrower" and Jetari GL-14 "Brawler").

PAINTING: Martian Dreadball Team Prototype

I was pretty happy with the way this little guy turned out. He took quite some time for me - I am still a novice painter at best.

A lot of the techniques I used, I found in this video:

Looking forward to getting these finished and seeing how they play on the pitch.
Ack, Ack, Ack!
